Harbor Animal Hospital provides the finest possible care for all of your small animals, including exotics and pocket pets. Our high standards are maintained in every aspect of our practice, from our clean and modern facility to our highly experienced and trained staff. |
Examinations and Immunizations At Harbor Animal Hospital, we strongly believe in the concept of preventative medicine. Regular examinations and immunizations are critical to maintaining the health of your pet. Our knowledgeable staff can help you decide which preventative measures are best for your pet.
Wellness Visits, why are they important? Since our patients do not directly talk to us, we often rely on patient history from owners, physical exam findings and laboratory data to screen for illness before disease becomes too advanced. Pets under the age of 7 years old should be examined once to twice a year. During your visit we review your pet's vaccine status to determine what may be needed. We obtain a thorough history and perform a physical exam to evaluate all body systems and note any irregularities. Pets over the age of 7 should have biannual exams. The aging process is faster in our companion animals and things can change rapidly. The earlier we diagnose a problem, the higher the likelihood we can successfully manage and treat the condition. Our senior patients should have a complete blood count, chemistry profile, and a urinalysis performed once a year.
Medical Care With our state-of-the-art equipment and our highly trained staff, we provide complete medical care for all pets, including birds, reptiles, rabbits, rodents, and even fish.
Full Surgical Services Harbor Animal Hospital has a clean and modern surgical suite on-site with safe anesthetic delivery and superior patient monitoring equipment. We offer a variety of surgical procedures from routine spays and neuters to complicated orthopedic procedures. All sterile procedures occur in the surgery suite. All patients are monitored during each procedure by a highly trained veterinary technician. The technician and Doctor utilize several pieces of equipment to monitor vital signs. We monitor and adjust anesthesia based on blood pressure, SpO2 (blood oxygenation), ECG and heart rate.
Dentistry and Preventative Teeth Cleaning Regular dental care is important to the health of your pet. In addition to a thorough mouth examination as part of any wellness exam, we offer teeth cleaning and other dental services for your pet. Dentistry needs to be performed under general anesthesia to minimize stress and pain for our patients. It also increases our ability to determine which teeth need to be extracted. Patients receive intravenous fluids and their vital signs are monitored during the procedure. Once the cleaning and mapping are done, the doctor re-examines the mouth and extractions are performed if they are needed. We ask your permission up front during the check-in process for authorization to perform any necessary extractions. If extractions are required, we use systemic pain killers and local nerve blocks to help manage the post procedure discomfort. |
